President Barack Obama has said, “Today we begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is just a little bit better than the one we inhabit today.”
We all know that the condition our economy and our world are in, are not, by any means, acceptable. Change is what we all hope for, and are all striving to evoke. Even a little thing to help our country, our people, our world, will make a difference.
Our company, HipPurse LLC, has become a part of that change. And our loyal customers can make a difference too. Whenever an order is shipped from us, there are three trees planted through Trees for the Future.
Trees for the Future has been helping our planet since 1989. An organization out of Silver Spring, Maryland, they are an, “agroforestry resource center helping people in developing countries improve their rural livelihoods through the introduction of environmentally sustainable land management projects focused on beneficial tree planting” (http://www.treesftf.org/).
The volunteers for Trees for the Future have traveled to countries in Africa, Asia, and Central America, to educate and help restore devastated areas. They plant trees and also educate the people, giving underprivileged areas the knowledge and power to thrive.
HipPurse is proud to be a ‘Plant-a-Tree’ partner with Trees for the Future. Other partners include companies like: L’Oreal, Whole Foods Market, and 41pounds.org.
Operation Smile
Our company is also involved with Operation Smile; an organization founded in 1982, devoted to treating children and young adults with cleft palates, lips, and other facial deformities.
The charity, based in Virginia, has helped millions worldwide, by training medical professionals and giving patients the health they deserve, free of charge. Operation Smile has been all over the world and is currently present in 51 countries, including: Mexico, Thailand, Peru, China, and Egypt.
Operation Smile has touched the lives of many, and has become a cause close to the hearts of many. As a company that is family-owned, we have become a part of Operation Smile because it is close to the hearts of many, including our mother. “She knew it only took around $250 to complete a surgery and she wanted to be a part of that mission,” said Vice President, Kenya D’Agustino.
Celebrity Ambassadors that have become spokespeople for the charity include: singer, Jessica Simpson; actress Roselyn Sanchez and her husband, Eric Winter; and O.A.R musician, Benj Gershman.
Ambassador corporations have donated millions of dollars for the cause. Because of its success, Operation Smile won the 2008 Non-profit Organization of the Year Award, from the DMA (Direct Marketing Association) Non-profit Federation of New York. The Children’s Home
HipPurse LLC not only supports national charities and organizations, but we give back to our local communities as well. Through a school donation, Designer, Ladene Paulino, found a local safe-haven. The Children’s Home, located in Cromwell, Connecticut, is a Christian treatment centre and special education school. D’Agustino explained, “When we were deciding on charities, [Ladene] knew it could help them on a much bigger scale.”
The Home provides a safe and nurturing environment for children and families with special needs, ranging from family therapy programs, to residential and out-patient treatments.
They even have a therapeutic community program which includes an outdoor rope course and bonding and problem-solving activities. Groups, like church groups and companies, can work on team and self-esteem building exercises through the program.
The Children’s Home offers volunteer programs and is always in need. Supplies for the children, tutors, or members to help with their Buddy Program are always welcome. For information on how to help The Children’s Home, visit http://www.childhome.org/.
The Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh
As a company of women who are devoted to supporting others and better the world, we also support The Women’s Center & Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh; one of the first six shelters for women who are victims of abuse.
This year will be their 35th year in operation, but despite all the help they have done over the course of those years, The Center still needs the help of others. Last year, they had to turn away 360 women and children.
Donations and cell phones are collected to help the shelter and the women they support. United Way is also a contributor for this cause.
Celebrity, Christina Aguilera, has openly shared her story of family abuse, and has voiced her gratitude to this shelter, which is located in her hometown. The Women’s Center is a charity she supports as a celebrity, and as a woman who has overcome family violence.

Whether we are helping the environment or the lives of the lesser fortunate, we are proud to say we can.
